Twenty-five years ago, Shelburne Vineyard's founder Ken Albert planted a few short rows of Riesling vines at our Meach Cove vineyard. This small site near Lake Champlain, with its slightly warmer microclimate, proved to be one of the few places in Vermont that Riesling can grow (so far)!
For many years we made a Shelburne Vineyard Riesling in a semi-dry style, but paused the wine for a few vintages and experimented with making it as a very dry wine. Due to popular demand, for the 2024 vintage we decided to bring back the semi-dry Riesling and we're excited to share the results with you!
This classic style of white wine is a beautiful star bright yellow, and was filtered at bottling for clarity. Fermentation was arrested, leaving the Riesling with 1.5 grams per liter of natural residual grape sugars.
Our 2024 Shelburne Vineyard Riesling greets you in the glass with evocative notes of honeysuckle, warm lemon and wet stone. There's a light and very pleasant sweetness on the palate, and a lingering finish. We love it with Thanksgiving dinner or any meal of roast poultry and herbs!
